This astronomical handbook with tables consists of 4 books (maqālas): 1) Elementary calculations [84 chs.]; 2) tables; 3) cosmology; and 4) proofs.Two chapters of Book 3, namely, "al-Abʿād wa-al-ajrām" (on sizes and distances) and "Jawāmiʿ ʿilm al-hayʾah" (a compendium of theoretical astronomy) became separate treatises.
