Notes |
ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Kharaqī has often been confused with an older contemporary, a [Shams al‐Dīn] Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn Abī Bashar al-Kharaqī (both sharing the same nisba). Sources of this misattribution seem to be Ḥājjī Khalīfa’s Kashf al Ẓunūn and Baghdādī’s Hadyat Hidāyat al-ʿArifīn. Kharaqī explicitly credits Ibn al-Haytham as being an important influence for motivating him to consider solid spheres as opposed to imaginary circles in astronomy. |
