This important work on instruments by ʿAbd al-Jalil al-Sijzi entitled Kayfiyyat ṣināʿat al-ālāt al-nujūmiyya (How to construct astronomical instruments) or Kitāb fī ʿamal al-uṣṭurlāb (Book on the construction of the astrolabe) probably inspired Biruni's Istīʿāb al-wujūh al-mumkina fī ṣināʿat al-uṣṭurlāb (Understanding all possible ways of constructing the astrolabe), a work that became more popular than Sijzi’s |
