(From MAMS2): Al-Sijzī in his al-Madkhal ilá ʿilm al-handasah, which is on conic sections, mentions that Banū Mūsá's treatise was about the ellipse, and that in it, the method of an ellipse based on constancy of the sum of focal radius-vectors of its points (gardener's construction) was used.
